Patents are the most common form of protection, followed by trademarks. The majority of companies (64% of those surveyed in tranches 2-5) have already gained some sort of protection, and an additional 15% are currently seeking protection.

Having tried to gauge the market early in the process of innovation, just under half of companies are on target with their sales expectations. Encouragingly, companies that have exceeded their sales predictions out-number those which have fallen short of their goal.
